Communication

This page is concerned with ways in which members can communicate within the system. That means without knowing each other's email addresses. Members will be able to communicate with one another using the normal social networking tools. It does not include the offers which are separate as they are all indexed and categorised.

  • Members will be able to put messages onto the system and read messages according to the filters.
  • There will be a system configuration option determining whether members can send system messages directly to email accounts of those it might affect. If it is switched on, members will have an option, on posting a message to have it mailed directly to one of the filtered groups
  • Notices will have expiry dates, and will be able to be withdrawn by their authors before the expiry date.

John Waters says I believe the system should allow for as many communication channels as possible, including (with decreasing channel capacity):

  • web interface (browser)
  • email (using an autoresponder system and defined formats)
  • XML streams (including Jabber)
  • SMS (+: portable & inclusive) (-: expensive, clumsy & limited)

That's not an exhaustive list, but all apply (in different ways) to
transactions, member details or item/service details.
